The YAC is an organization of your best and brightest young adults from all over the county where they meet and express ideas and issues within the county and school system. 2006 was a great and promising start for the new and improved Youth Advisory Council (YAC) of the Clayton Collaborative Authority!

Two main events occurred in the past year that is steadily getting YAC out there.  Four students from Clayton County; two YAC members and two 4Hers were asked to go to a youth summit at UGA’s Rock Eagle Campus.  A strategic plan that was developed and lead by the YAC members was put together about the counties educational system. Our Motto for the Strategic Plan is …”Education is the key to all of life’s doors….don’t get locked out”.  With more than seven hundred youth from the State of Georgia in attendance at Rock Eagle our very own group from Clayton County rose above the rest and was the only group asked to present their project to the WHOLE Summit with the help of their chaperone, Ms. Serena Walls.

Another honorable moment that we endeavored upon was our prestigious meeting with our very own School Superintendent Dr. Barbara Pulliam!  In this meeting we were given the opportunity to ask and suggest whatever we wanted to Dr. Pulliam.  The meeting ran very smoothly and I believe that Dr. Pulliam was quite amazed by our genuine concern and willingness to help our schools and community.

Ms. Sheila Williams, the Chairperson  and Mr. John Brinson of the Clayton County Collaborative Authority have both been instrumental in assisting Y.A.C. in reaching our goal of making Clayton County a better place for everyone!  For the new year of 2007 we have bigger and better plans in store.  The past year has been awesome…but we are looking for 2007 to be even bigger, I hope the county is ready for us!
